LPIC-1 is the first certification in the multi-tiered professional certification program offered by the Linux Professional Institute (LPI). The LPIC-1 certification validates the candidate's ability to perform maintenance tasks from the command line, install and configure a Linux computer, and set up a basic network.
The LPIC-1 certification is designed to reflect current research and authenticate the candidate's skills in real-world system administration. The objectives are directly related to practical tasks in the field.
To obtain the LPIC-1 certification, a candidate must be capable of:
- Understanding the architecture of a Linux system.
- Installing and maintaining a Linux workstation, including X11, and configuring it as a network client.
- Working with the Linux command line, including common GNU and Unix commands.
- Managing files, permissions, and system security.
- Performing basic maintenance tasks: assisting users, adding users to a larger system, backup and restore, shutdown and reboot.
The LPIC-1 certification is designed to demonstrate practical skills in the real world and provides a strong foundation for further advancements in Linux system administration.
